Catamaran Charter Greece

If you want to go island hopping around Greece with your family or friends without breaking the bank, crewed catamaran charters in Greece offer incredible value. You get beach-front accommodation, a private chef, a professional crew who know the islands, great service, transport to amazing locations, great water toys, and an adventure of a lifetime, all in one package, and the best part – you do not have to lift a finger.

The crewed catamaran fleet in Greece is amazingly diverse, with luxury catamarans ranging from 50 to 80 feet. There is something for everyone, whether a family on a budget or a group looking to splurge on an ultra-luxurious experience.

We recommend catamarans to clients looking for maximum value for money, connection to the water, and relaxed cruising or sailing around the Greek Islands.

Why charter a catamaran in Greece?

Most of our first-time clients choose catamarans–and many rebook the same type. Here’s why:

    • More space for less: A 70ft catamaran rivals an 85ft motor yacht in space and costs less to charter and run.
    • Naturally stable: Twin hulls mean no heeling, fewer seasick guests, and easier movement onboard.
    • Low fuel use: Catamarans consume significantly less fuel than motor yachts, resulting in lower APA and better overall value for the same itinerary.

How much does a Greece catamaran charter cost?

Crewed Greece catamaran charters cost between €15,000 and €100,000 per week, depending on the yacht’s size, season, and onboard experience.

Most yacht charters in Greece follow a plus-expenses model. Here’s how the cost breaks down:

  • Base rate: The weekly price for the yacht and crew
  • APA: 25–30% of the base rate; covers food, drinks, fuel, docking fees, and tips
  • VAT: Currently 12% in Greece

All-inclusive catamaran charters in Greece are rare, but we’ve secured a few exclusive options. Contact us if that’s what you’re looking for.

Sailing catamaran vs power catamaran, which is better for Greece?

The first question we ask you is, do you care about sailing? If the answer is yes, the next question is, do you care about sailing well?

Most modern luxury catamarans are built with a luxury-first mindset (the Sunreef 80 is a prime example)- meaning they are as big and flash as possible, with spacious decks, maximum interior volume, and big flybridges. The downfall is more weight and bad aerodynamics, ergo, a catamaran that does not sail very well. This is why most charter catamarans in Greece use their engines most of the time.

But good news for the sailing enthusiast: if you are looking for a luxury sailing catamaran that also performs, they do exist – we often point clients towards the French brand Fontaine Pajot, which balances both factors very well.

Now, if you do not care about sailing at all, it does not mean that we do not suggest any sailing catamarans to you. Sometimes they are still the better fit for other reasons.

So, when do we recommend a power catamaran in Greece? When our clients are looking for something more like a motor yacht. Power catamarans are generally more spacious due to the lack of sailing gear and less worry about aerodynamics and balance. Their sole drive is their engines, meaning they are more powerful and faster. You can look at a power catamaran as a hybrid yacht with the layout benefits of a catamaran and the speed benefits of a motor yacht.

Catamaran cabin layouts – which suit your group?

Charter catamarans are built with different guest groups in mind: some are meant for families, others for friend groups, others for kids, and others for flexibility.

These are common catamaran layouts:

  • Family layouts: A master cabin + 3-4 double or twin cabins
  • Multigenerational or mix: A master cabin + a VIP cabin + doubles or twins
  • Friend groups or couples sharing: 4-5 equally sized cabins

A very common enquiry we get is for a catamaran in Greece with 5 equal cabins for 5 couples who want to share a yacht charter and split the bill evenly. That is why we have compiled the list of best catamarans that fit the mold.

Where to go on your Greek catamaran charter?

Not all Greek sailing areas suit catamarans equally. We recommend routes with shorter crossings, protected waters, and good anchoring spots–so you can enjoy the islands, not fight the wind.

We recommend the Saronic Gulf for most first-time catamaran charters in Greece.

  • Close to Athens = best yacht availability and no repositioning fees
  • Short island hops mean less fuel and lower APA
  • Protected anchorages in all weather conditions
  • Route highlights: Hydra, Spetses, Poros, Aegina

We recommend the Ionians for guests who want calm weather, predictability, and a greener side of Greece.

  • Calmer weather and predictable itineraries
  • Lush scenery, Venetian towns, and sheltered bays
  • Start in Corfu or Lefkada — growing local catamaran fleet
  • Route highlights: Corfu, Paxos, Antipaxos, Kefalonia, Ithaca

We recommend the Cyclades for groups who can stay flexible and adjust plans around the weather.

  • Most iconic Greek Islands, like Santorini and Mykonos
  • Long distances and strong Meltemi winds in summer
  • Far from Athens – start from Paros, Naxos, or Mykonos instead (ask us for a yacht already there)
  • Route highlights: Milos, Paros, Polyaigos, Sifnos

Best Itineraries for catamaran charters in Greece

We have made these Greek yacht charter itineraries with catamarans in mind. They:

  • mix the best islands with realistic distances
  • are shorter than motor yacht itineraries
  • start and end in places easy to fly into

Other questions our clients ask about catamaran charters in Greece

Can I sail from Athens to Santorini on a catamaran in one week?

Technically, yes, but we don’t recommend it. It’s over 150 nautical miles, with long sailing days and Meltemi exposure. Instead, we suggest focusing on the closer Cycladic islands like Paros, Naxos, or Milos.

Want to reach Santorini? A motor yacht is the better option, or inquire about a catamaran already located in the Cyclades.

Can we charter a catamaran in Greece for more than 12 guests?

No. By law, most charter yachts in Greece are limited to 12 guests, unless they’re classed as passenger ships, which no catamarans are.

For larger groups, we recommend:

  • Tandem charters – two catamarans sailing together
  • Yacht + chase boat combos – especially if some guests want more space or flexibility

Let us know your group size and we’ll suggest the best setup.

Are there any all-inclusive catamaran charters in Greece?

Yes. Though rare, we have made exclusive deals with yacht owners for special all-inclusive crewed catamaran charters in Greece. These typically include meals, drinks, fuel, and docking in one price.

What are the best departure points for a catamaran charter in Greece?

Athens (Alimos Marina) is the main departure point for the Saronic Gulf and Cyclades. For the Ionian Islands, charters often start from Corfu or Lefkada, while Rhodes is a top base for Dodecanese charters.

Do I need sailing experience to charter a catamaran in Greece?

No! Crewed catamaran charters require no experience—your captain and crew handle everything. If you want a bareboat charter, you’ll need a valid sailing license (RYA Day Skipper or equivalent).

When is the best time of year for a catamaran charter in Greece?

The best months for crewed yacht charters in Greece are May to October, with June and September offering the best balance of great weather and fewer crowds. July and August can be windy (Meltemi season), which may affect sailing routes.

How early should I book my Greek yacht charter?

With 3 months to charter, your best options are long gone. Ideally, we advise you to book 9-12 months before your intended charter.

It is also important to consider to keep some level of flexibility. Coming into high season and wanting to charter in the most popular areas, Greece yacht charters can easily be booked back-to-back.

One day back or forth can completely change the offer of available yachts, as you might find that your preferred yacht is already booked one day before your selected return date. It is, therefore, also a good idea to have your Greece yacht charter booked before you purchase your flight ticket.

Nadja at DMA did a great job understanding our needs, and provided many options for consideration. [..] Her work on arranging the charter, making any changes we requested, finalizing the deal and following up all along the way was outstanding.

Ultimately, we landed on The Cute Little Cat, which was incredible. Captain Dimi and his amazing crew, were fantastic. I can’t say enough about their professionalism and attention to detail. Arguably, one of the best vacations ever.

10 of us went on the ChristAl Mio catamaran yacht for 7 days around the Greek Isles. Sarah at DMA was our broker and could not have done a better job.

She listened, paid attention to our details and was very patient as we gathered our group for the trip. The Yacht was magnificent, the crew was like family by the end and the service and Food was outstanding.
