Greece Yacht Charter Highlights
Everyone has heard of Mykonos and Santorini—but they’re far from the full story. With years of experience on the water and conversations with hundreds of Captains, we know the places worth reaching by yacht. Think Wild cliffside anchorages, traditional tavernas with no road in, and islands where you can tie stern to the rocks and dive into crystal clear water away from crowds.
⚲ Cyclades Islands
EXPLORE THE PIRATE CAVES OF MILOS
We always recommend a stop at Milos—it’s consistently ranked a top island by captains we work with. Once a pirate hideout, this Cycladic gem is full of sea caves and beaches you can only reach by boat. On a Greece yacht charter, Milos is exactly the kind of place that makes sailing here so special.
⚲ Saronic Gulf
LAUNCH THE WATER TOYS AT AGISTRI
Agistri’s uninhabited side is one of our favorite anchorages in the Saronic Gulf. You’ll tie stern-to the rocks, launch every water toy on board, and spend the day in total privacy. This is what a Saronic yacht charter is all about—calm seas, short distances, and wild places you can’t get to any other way.
⚲ Ionian Islands
VISIT UNESCO-LISTED CORFU OLD TOWN
Dock near Corfu’s UNESCO-listed old town and explore pastel streets shaped by Venetian, French, and British influences. It’s one of Europe’s most picturesque port cities, and a perfect cultural stop on an Ionian yacht charter—especially when paired with Paxos, Antipaxos, and the sea caves to the south.

Greece has five main yacht charter regions, each offering a different style of cruising, from the iconic whitewashed cliffs of the Cyclades Islands to the lush landscapes of the Ionian Islands. Some are ideal for catamarans and relaxed island hopping; others are better suited to powerful motor yachts that cover more ground.
Cyclades Islands
The Cyclades are the most iconic island group in Greece, home to famous Santorini and Mykonos. But a Cyclades yacht charter also means long distances, open-sea crossings, and windier conditions during the Meltemi season, so flexibility is key.
- Best for: Motor yachts or longer itineraries
- Highlights: Whitewashed villages, nightlife, cliffside anchorages
- Favorites: Milos, Polyaigos, Folegandros
- Pro tip: Start your yacht charter in Mykonos and save the long haul from Athens.
Saronic Gulf
Just a short cruise from Athens, a Saronic yacht charter offers some of the easiest and most accessible sailing in Greece, with loads of protected bays and short distances between islands. A great intro to Greek sailing.
Ionian Islands
The Ionian Islands are Greece’s greenest region, known for calm seas and gentle breezes, making itinerary planning more reliable. An Ionian yacht charter is ideal for families or guests seeking nature, historic harbors, and remote beaches.
Dodecanese Islands
A Dodecanese yacht charter takes you off the beaten path to a stretch of islands rich in ancient Greek, Byzantine, and Ottoman history. Expect dramatic coastlines, medieval harbors, and far fewer crowds than the Cyclades.
Sporades Islands
A Sporades yacht charter explores one of Greece’s best-kept secrets, a lush, quiet island group reached from Volos or Skiathos. Known for calm seas, short hops, and the Alonissos Marine Park–Europe’s largest–home to the endangered monk seal.
- Best for: Catamarans, families, nature lovers, and off-the-beaten-path cruises
- Highlights: Pine-covered bays, sea caves, traditional seaside tavernas
- Favorites: Skopelos, Skiathos, Alonissos, Skyros
- Pro tip: Pick a catamaran or sailboat for relaxed, sheltered cruising

Frequently Asked Questions
What are the best months for luxury yacht charter in Greece?
April–October is the standard charter season:
-
April–May & September–October: Our clients love these shoulder seasons—fewer crowds, warm sea temperatures, gentle winds. It’s often cited as the best time to charter.
-
June–August: High season with hot weather. Expect strong Meltemi winds in July and August (Beaufort 5–7 in the Aegean) — great for sailing enthusiasts, but may limit relaxed cruising in exposed areas like the Cyclades.
-
March, November: Off-season options are possible in select regions; water can be cold and services limited.
How far can you go on a one-week private yacht charter in Greece?
It depends on the yacht, the weather, and your fuel budget.
As a rule of thumb, we recommend 2–3 hours of cruising per day. That’s roughly:
-
40–50 nautical miles per day on a motor yacht
-
15–25 nautical miles on a catamaran or sailing yacht
Weather — especially Meltemi winds — can affect your daily range, particularly in the Cyclades. Our brokers help tailor your itinerary based on yacht type, fuel range, and sea conditions.
Is VAT included in the yacht charter price?
Not always.
Some yachts include VAT, others don’t—especially if they operate across different countries. Ask your broker; we confirm the exact VAT and help clients navigate the most cost-effective options.
What is my chance of getting to Santorini?
It depends on your yacht type, starting point, and weather.
Santorini is around 150 nautical miles from Athens, which is too far for most catamarans or sailing yachts on a 7-day charter. The crossing can also be rough, especially during the Meltemi season.
For one-week charters:
-
✅ A large motor yacht can reach Santorini comfortably.
-
⚠️ Catamarans or sailing yachts should either start closer (e.g., in Mykonos) or choose a different island group.
We help our clients design realistic, weather-smart itineraries — so if Santorini is a must, we’ll advise you on the best way to make it happen.
What you need to know before chartering a yacht to Santorini
Can we get a yacht for more than 12 people?
Only on certain licensed vessels.
Most charter yachts in Greece are legally limited to 12 guests. If you are more than 12 guests who want to charter together, you have a couple of options:
- Chartering one of the few yachts that is licensed to carry 12+ guests
- Booking a tandem charter – two yachts chartering together
- Chartering a motor yacht with an additional chase boat
What is the advance provisioning allowance?
APA is a budget for running costs.
It covers food, fuel, port fees, and other onboard expenses. Usually 25–40% of the charter fee, it’s managed by the captain and adjusted based on actual use.
How early should I book my Greek yacht charter?
Ideally 9–12 months in advance.
Top yachts book early, especially in high season. We always recommend securing the yacht before booking flights, and keeping dates flexible by a day or two if possible.

Nadja Asmus at DMA did a great job understanding our needs, and provided many options for consideration. She took the time to review different types of boats, amenities, itineraries, etc. Her work on arranging the charter, making any changes we requested, finalizing the deal and following up all along the way was outstanding. […] The interaction with the crew was memorable and we were amazed at all the great locations we were able to see. Arguably, one of the best vacations ever.
