Dodecanese Yacht Charter
Why Charter a Yacht in the Dodecanese Islands?
The Dodecanese Islands are one of those areas we always recommend to returning charter guests. It’s not the easiest place to get to—but that’s exactly why it’s still got its soul. These islands sit close to the Turkish coast and bring together Ancient Greek ruins, medieval castles, Eastern architecture, and proper old Ottoman ports.
You get a lot here: real towns, UNESCO sites, volcano hikes, and spots with zero crowds. From Rhodes’ old walled city to the volcanic crater of Nisyros, there’s no shortage of contrast. Just keep in mind—this is a larger area, so you’ll want to plan smarter and not try to do too much in one week.
Best Dodecanese Islands
Rhodes
Start here. Rhodes got a proper airport, a UNESCO-listed Old Town, and a real marina. The medieval core is one of the best-preserved in Europe, and Lindos Acropolis is worth the trip inland. Anchor off Anthony Quinn Bay for clear water and quiet nights.
- Highlight: Old Town walk, Lindos, and the best provisioning
Symi
Just an hour from Rhodes, Symi offers one of the most striking arrivals you’ll ever have by boat. Colorful neoclassical houses stacked up the hills. Swim off Nanou Beach, and anchor overnight just outside the harbor.
- Highlight: Most beautiful harbor in Greece
Kos
We usually recommend Kos for starting or restocking. But there’s more here—Asclepeion is one of the best ancient medical centers in Greece, and the marina is modern and convenient.
- Highlight: Easy logistics, ancient ruins, and beach clubs
Kalymnos
Kalymnos is a climbing mecca and one of the more rugged islands. There’s still sponge diving culture here and good anchorages around Emborios and Vlychadia. Go for the hikes, then jump off the boat into clean water.
- Highlight: Cliffs, coastline, and tavernas with character
Leros
Calmer, older, and less flashy. You come to Leros to wind down. Lakki harbor has unique Italian architecture, and there are quiet bays all around the island.
- Highlight: Authentic vibe, protected anchorages
Nisyros
Nisyros feels like you landed on the moon. Anchor off Mandraki and visit the crater—the island is still volcanically active. Hike the rim and come back to your yacht for a drink as the sun sets over the caldera.
- Highlight: Volcano hike and dramatic scenery
Understand Weather Conditions and Distances
The Meltemi hits here too, but it’s usually milder than in the Cyclades—and there are more islands to hide behind. The region does stretch far though, so distances between some islands are longer.
- Rhodes to Kos: ~60 NM
- Kos to Leros: ~30 NM
- Best for motor yachts, or smart catamaran routes
Plan for fewer stops and longer stays. Don’t try to rush this region.
Best Yacht Type for a Dodecanese Yacht Charter
- Motor Yachts – Great for covering longer distances quickly
- Catamarans – Best for northern Dodecanese or tighter itineraries
- Sailing Yachts – For experienced crews who want the wind and don’t mind a bit of movement

Where to Start Your Dodecanese Yacht Charter?
Rhodes
Rhodes is your best bet if you want big yacht selection and better provisioning. The airport connects well to Europe and the marina is right near the Old Town.
Kos
Smaller, but with a decent charter fleet and a few standout boats. Great for heading north to Kalymnos, Leros, and Patmos.
We recommend one-way charters between Rhodes and Kos if you want to cover more ground without doubling back.
Top Yachts Available for Charter in the Dodecanese This Year
There are fewer yachts permanently based here, but it’s growing. Some boats relocate to Rhodes or Kos for the summer, and we keep tabs on which ones.
