Yacht Charters in Greece for Large Groups (12-40+guests)
Charter a luxury yacht for a family reunion, milestone celebration, or corporate retreat, and explore the Greek Islands the right way.
If you are looking for a charter yacht in Greece for more than 12 people, you have probably already noticed how hard it is to find. Why is that?
Most charter yachts in Greece (and in most other EU countries) are legally limited to carrying a maximum of 12 guests, regardless of size or cabin count. That’s not a pricing issue or owner preference—it’s EU maritime law.
But the good news is, there are exceptions: We know the yachts that are fully licensed to carry 12, 16, 34—even 70+ guests. These yachts are in high demand, and if you’re planning a charter for more than 12 people, you need to start here—with real, legal options.
You have 3 options:
- Charter a big yacht with a license to carry more than 12 guests
- Tandem Charter (2 yachts that cruise together on a scheduled itinerary)
- Yacht + Chase Boat
Why is it so hard to find a yacht for more than 12 guests?
It comes down to strict EU safety regulations. Any yacht carrying more than 12 passengers must be certified as a commercial passenger vessel. That means lifeboats, SOLAS compliance, emergency drills, structural stability—the kind of requirements built for ocean liners, not private yachts.
Most yacht owners won’t go through the expense or red tape. That’s why even large superyachts with 10+ cabins are still capped at 12 guests. Except for a few that go that extra mile.
One Yacht: Charter a yacht licensed for 13+ guests
This is the option most of our clients prefer, simply because the idea of being all together on one yacht is the most appealing (in most cases). It is also the option that is most limiting, simply because the selection of yachts is smaller.
These yachts are also very popular, so inquiring early is important. Alternative options are to be open to other locations. We often recommend our clients to charter a yacht for a big group in Croatia, since there are a lot more options there.
Tandem Charter: Charter 2 yachts and cruise together
When one yacht isn’t enough, charter two.
Tandem charters involve booking two (or more) yachts that cruise together—ideal for large groups who want to stay connected while respecting legal limits. Each yacht still carries no more than 12 guests, but together they can accommodate 24, 36, or more, with coordinated itineraries and crews.
We handle all logistics—berthing, provisioning, crew coordination—so your charter runs as one seamless experience across multiple yachts. Ideal for corporate retreats, weddings, or extended families who want space and style.
Yacht + Chase Boat: Expand the capacity of one yacht
Another creative solution: adding a certified chase boat.
If your main yacht is limited to 12 guests, a licensed support vessel can carry additional guests and operate under commercial rules. This keeps your core charter experience intact, while meeting legal safety standards for larger groups.
Chase boats can also transport guests to shore, carry luggage or water toys, and provide privacy or flexibility across your itinerary.
We’ll advise on which chase boats are compatible with your chosen yacht, and how they integrate with crew, meals, and activities.
