Tinos is a charter location in Cyclades, a yacht charter area in Greece.
The anchorages on Tinos:
Location
Ormos Tinos is located on the northwestern part of the island and is the largest port that caters to commercial and passenger ferries. Visitors will love this port in the Cyclades for yacht charters holidays for the excellent views of the Chora and elegant architecture. The bay can be crowded during the summer months due to the multiple daily ferry routes that visit the island. Ormos Tinos offers an ideal spot for those wishing to explore the main village of Tinos and experience all it has to offer. Strong southerly winds can lift surf, however, there is relatively good shelter from the Meltemi.
Navigation
When approaching from the south care is needed for the reef and shoal waters south of Cape Akrotiri. The church of Panagia Evangelistria is visible in the distance making for a cinematic entrance to the harbour. Be mindful of a chain lying on the seabed where anchors can get caught in. A limited number of sheltered berths are available on the NW corner of the inner basin that also offer services. On the N side of the quay, you can go stern or bows-to. Mud bottom offers good holding. If the weather is calm, you can also anchor on the SE quay but care is required for an underwater riprap. There is also the option to dock on the old ferry quay, during southerlies but there are no services. The wash from the ferries coming and going can be uncomfortable. While it is the largest, space in the harbour is tight due to the need for manoeuvring.
Provisioning
Ormos Tinos caters to yacht charters in need of provisions. Water and electricity are available on the NW corner. The local market in the village has fresh fruit and vegetables. Weekends can be quite noisy and crowded late into the night but the middle of the week is better. There are various scooter rentals available near the port so you can tour the villages around Chora as well as frequent buses. Visitors will find taverns, cafes, ATMs and various stores in the area around the harbour for all their shopping.
Types of Boats that are in the Marina
The port is busy and crowded. In addition to fast ferries, you will find high-speed catamarans, yachts and smaller motorboats.
Capacity and Technical Data
Ormos Tinos is popular due to the unparallel access it offers to Chora and the picturesque setting. The bay offers good protection from strong winds but the swell can be dangerous. The inner harbour is often reserved for fast catamaran boats, so a more relaxing spot can be enjoyed off the quay.
