Ormos Prokopiou is an anchorage in Naxos.

Naxos is a charter location in Cyclades, a yacht charter area in Greece.

The anchorages on Naxos:

Overview

Ormos Prokopiou lies under the tip of Ak. Prokopis, just 3km south of Naxos Marina. It is within walking distance of Ayios Anna and the spectacular beaches at Maragas/Plaka, both to the south.

Navigation

Ormos Prokopiou does provide reasonable shelter from the Meltemi gusts, but there’s usually some swell. The bottom is sand. Anchor at 4m-6m.

General Information

In the summer you will find plenty of tourist facilities close by, with tavernas and beach bars all offering shade and refreshments.

While the main town is within walking distance, if you prefer a quicker alternative, the good news is that a bus passes by every 30 minutes. It also stops at Ay. Annas before reaching Chora.

Beaches

Prokopios Beach

Rich golden sands and clear waters ensure this family-friendly beach is safe for swimming. The middle section of the beach is usually the quietest, but be aware that it’s here you’re most likely to encounter nude or semi-nude sunbathers.

Sunbeds and umbrellas are available for hire: the average price is reasonable, at around 10 euros for 2 people. Even at the height of the summer season, the beach doesn’t usually get busy before 11 am, so that’s the best time for an early morning stroll or swim.

Maragas/Plaka Beaches

This truly spectacular stretch of sand will take your breath away when you first see it.  Reaching 4km along the beautiful west coast, it is considered to be one of the finest beaches in Greece. There are plenty of tourist facilities dotted along its length, with hotels, beach bars, and even two campsites. There is a nudist zone to the northern end.

Place of Interest

Naxos Town

When you are finally tired of all the relaxation and want to move and explore, the best advice is to get on the local bus and head to Naxos Town and the bustling marina for a total change of pace.

Whether you’re ready to shop in the plethora of small local designer boutiques for something unique to wear to the restaurant or want to wander around the labyrinth of winding streets lined with traditional white-washed houses, you won’t be disappointed!

To get a deeper insight into the rich history and culture of Naxos which stretches back thousands of years, the Archeological Museum is not to be missed. The monumental Kastro is also worth a visit. Allow at least one full day to savor the atmosphere and discover many hidden treasures of this unique and vibrant place.

Places to Eat

With over 200 places to eat within 3 miles, you will have plenty to choose from!  Here are just three, all within easy reach of the beach, that visitors rave about time and again.

Glikofournismata

Probably the top-rated bakery in Naxos.  Get freshly-baked croissants and coffee here. Their spinach pastries are to die for. They also serve great frappes, and delicious cakes, so it’s a great place to head to when you want a little something sweet. It is near the beach, with good prices, and friendly owners, who love you to try their specialities.

Lefto’s Souvlaki and Kebab House

There are so many great fish restaurants in this area. However, you may want a little break from seafood and head to a kebab house.

Lefto’s is famous for their pork and chicken giros, creamy tzatziki (local yoghurt, cucumber, and lots of garlic), and light, crispy bread.  Portions are huge so it is definitely worth the price. The hospitable owners will help you choose a selection to delight whether you are the most demanding carnivore, or prefer a vegetarian meal.
