Delos Yacht Charter Guide

Delos is one of the best cultural stops in the Cyclades, but it is not a normal overnight island. We usually treat it as a day visit from Mykonos, Rinia, or a nearby Cyclades route when clients want ancient history without losing the flow of the charter.

The value of Delos is very clear: it gives a yacht charter a world-class archaeological site within a short hop of Mykonos. The limitation is also clear: there are no hotels, no beach-club scene, and the visit depends on site hours, sea conditions, and the captain’s plan.

Best For

  • History-focused clients who want more than beaches.
  • Combining Mykonos with a serious cultural stop.
  • Day visits from Mykonos or Rinia.
  • Families and groups who want an easy guided excursion ashore.
  • Cyclades routes where the itinerary allows a weather-flexible stop.

What to See and Do

  • Avenue of the Lions: the most recognizable image of ancient Delos.
  • Sanctuary of Apollo: the heart of the sacred island’s ancient importance.
  • House of Dionysus: known for mosaics and a strong sense of daily life on the site.
  • Terrace views: worth the climb if your guide and timing allow it.
  • Delos Archaeological Museum: useful when open and when the group wants deeper context.

Delos Anchorage

Delos is a day-stop decision, not an overnight anchorage strategy. The captain will usually position the yacht around Delos, Rinia, or Mykonos depending on conditions and access rules. We recommend keeping Delos flexible because the experience is much better when the sea state, timing, and site visit line up cleanly.

A Short History of Delos

In antiquity, Delos was one of the most sacred islands in the Greek world and was closely associated with Apollo and Artemis. Its ruins show how religious importance, trade, and politics turned a small island into one of the most important archaeological sites in the Aegean.
