Ormos Vathi is an anchorage in Folegandros.
Folegandros is a charter location in Cyclades, a yacht charter area in Greece.
The anchorages on Folegandros:
Location
Ormos Vathi is located on the W side of Folegandros island in the southern Cyclades, E of Ak Aspropounta. The bay is called Vathi, but the area is most often referred to as Agali or Ankali from one of the most popular beaches found here. Agali is located in the middle of the bay and is accessible by car. SE we find the beach of Fira and on the SW side, you find Galyfos and Agios Nikolaos. Agali is a beautiful beach with thick sand and some pebbles but without a lot of natural shade. While isolated, the relatively easy access to this small bay makes it one of the most popular swimming spots so it can be quite crowded during the summer months.
Navigation
The bottom is sand and weed offering relatively good holding. Not ideal when the Meltemi blows with the swell pushing into the bay. Can provide good shelter from NW winds. Yachts can anchor in 4-5m. If possible, it is best to anchor near Galifos beach on the W side.
Provisioning
This is not an ideal stop for provisions with limited options and not a lot in terms of amenities. There are a dozen houses, a few tavernas and restaurants that only operate during the summer. Daily buses running from Agali to Hora and other villages on the island are also available during the summer.
Capacity and Technical Data
Depending on the season, lots of day charter boats around the area. Scheduled boat trips depart from Ormos Vathi to the beach of Agios Nikolaos and Livaaki on the SW. There are also hiking paths for those wishing to explore the bays on foot and enjoy the undisturbed coastal views.
