Kastro

Location

Kastro is a protected bay located in the capital of Andros also known as Chora on the east coast of the island. It is a spacious anchor bay for yacht charters in Andros that was enlarged in recent years. Kastro is equipped with all standard facilities that visitors will require. This is the perfect base for exploring the Chora of Andros by foot from where you anchor your yacht. The cobblestone streets of Andros are full of unique shops and restaurants waiting for you to discover them. During the day this can be a busy and lively spot as tourists and locals come to tour the museums and sandy coves of Neimporio and Paraporti that surround Chora. There are also frequent buses going from Chora to other villages on the island.

Navigation

The approach into the harbour of Kastro can be a bit challenging since it faces directly into the Meltemi. Care should be taken for the reef running out from the headland that can be identified by the waves crashing onto it. Once you get to the bay, crewed yachts can anchor in 3-6m on the N side off the end of the mole. For first time visitors, nighttime approaches are not recommended due to the challenging entrance. When the Meltemi blows, expect a strong swell into the bay that can make it a bit uncomfortable. You can go bow-to or stern-to and there is also water available. The bottom consists of sand and rocks and provides good holding. The area had no electricity or water until after 2014. Yacht charters sailing in Greece will love this spot for its proximity to the numerous tavernas and restaurants and the views of Lighthouse Tourlitis in the distance.

Provisioning

Yacht charters will find a supermarket not far from the marina where you can get supplies. There are also various mini-markets, shops and taverns in close distance.

Types of Boats that are in the Marina

This is a good-sized anchor bay. You will find small deck boats and sailing yachts in the marina.

Capacity and Technical Data

Kastro offers motor yachts and boats a protected spot from meltemi winds and is one of the newest ports in Andros that is still being developed. The area around the bay is a hotspot of activity during the summer with the best bars and restaurants on the island to explore.
