Ormos Ay Dimitriou is an anchorage in Kythnos.

Kythnos is a charter location in Cyclades, a yacht charter area in Greece.

The anchorages on Kythnos:

Overview

Agios Dimitrios lies on the southernmost part of Kythnos island. This beautiful bay which resembles an amphitheater has its summer houses and villas lined on the hills overlooking its deep blue waters. The resort is under the administration of Dryopida. It is truly a charming little bay. All around the hills surrounding the beach are dry-stacked stone walls, which form terraces and divide farms and property on the hills of Ormos Ay Dimitriou.

Navigation

Chora is 19 km away, while Merikhas is just 17 km away. The drive from Merikhas takes about 40 minutes. While the road is good, it is a southern beach and is farther away than most others.

Where to Anchor

The bay in this area is over 14 meters deep in some places. The anchoring ground mainly consists of sand and seaweed patches. The anchoring strength when one pushes through to sand ranges from good to moderate. Dangerous winds come in from the North West and the South West. Hence, it is advisable to anchor to the North East or South East where you are protected from the winds. The slope up to the beach is not rough so always test till your anchor holds steady.

General Information

The beach of Agios Dimitrios village has something very unique- sea daffodils. These white lilies release sweet fragrances that linger in the air of the bay when they bloom. The houses on this bay are located on the Northern end. Along the beach, the taverns provide quality refreshment options. The tamarisk trees lined along the beach directly complement the turquoise waters. There are no daybeds or umbrellas, so it will be advisable to carry yours on your way to the beach. The trees also provide shade for those that have no umbrellas.  Agios Dimitrios beach is sandy with rock formations at its end. A favourite of tourists, it is perfect for families with children because it is shallow.

Beaches

Agios Dimitrios beach

This quiet beach fulfills all the senses of smell, sight, and touch. The beautiful sand allows beach games or family picnics. Beachgoers usually prefer to visit closer beaches, but those willing to take the long drive are rewarded with the clear water, golden sand, quiet beach, and spectacular view. The best time to visit is during the summer, from May to around October. The weather in summer is perfect for swimming, beach games, diving, or hiking.
