Island Overview
Stavros is the harbour and main settlement for Donoussa.
Navigation
The small harbour itself does lack some protection leading to swell, but it remains one of the more protected spots on the island.
To tie along the side of the ferry quay is not difficult and you can go to stern here. Found at 37°05.9′N, 25°47.7′E, the Stavros harbour is beautifully overlooked by a small collection of whitewashed limestone houses, the perfect postcard view of a village in the Cyclades.
General Information
Stavros is home to a small fishing village with plenty of amenities and that sought after Greek village feel only cobbled streets and flowing pinky purples of Bougainvillea and germaniums can really offer.
Things To Do
Home to most of Donoussa’s 100-200 population you will find an exquisite bakery and two grocery stores to stock up. Stavros also boasts three restaurants open mostly during summer. It is worth checking first for availability, but when open the taverns at Stavros can easily provide those dreamy evenings of fresh fish, ouzo and beautiful sunsets many of us crave.
On top of the hill towards the back of Stavros lies the majestic old ‘Panagitsa’ church overlooking the whole island and the Aegean Sea, a real treat at sunset. Stavros is within an easy 15-minute walk to the glorious beach of Kedros, possibly Donoussa’s best beach where you’ll find pristine white sands, sheltered waters and a beach bar.
Stavros itself boasts a family friendly sandy beach where nudism is discouraged, with safe swimming around the port and cove in which it lies. Stavros is also the place to catch the ferry and is the main transport terminal for Donoussa.
