What Adamas Means for Your Charter

Adamas is the main port of Milos — the island the captains and crews we surveyed at the Poros and Nafplio yacht shows voted the number one island in the Cyclades. For charter guests, it’s the practical base for everything that makes Milos special: Kleftiko’s caves and the lunar beach at Sarakiniko are reached by sea, and your yacht does that far better than any tour boat.

In practice, Adamas is where the crew tops up provisions and where you step ashore for tavernas and the village — the memorable swimming is around the coast, and your captain will pick the day’s stops based on the wind. If Milos is on your route, plan for a full day minimum; it’s the island our clients most often wish they’d given more time.

Adhamas is located near the city of Adamas, providing the perfect location to moor when looking to explore the island of Milos.

Navigation Towards Adhamas

As you enter the Órmos Mílos bay, you’ll see a lighthouse and the village of Mílos on the East side of the entrance. Continuing towards the shore, once you round past Ák Bombárdha, you will see the village of Adhamas directly in front of you, this is where you can anchor.

Dangers of approaching Adhamas

There are three main dangers to keep in mind and to avoid when moving into the Órmos Mílos bay and onwards to Adhamas.

  • At the entrance of Órmos Mílos, large waves rebound off the North face of Mílos and will cause disruptive waves for as far as a mile out of the bay.
  • When entering Órmos Mílos from the Eastside, be sure to avoid the rocks. This is especially the case of Órmos Mílou, which is a square rock that juts out of the water.
  • When you round past Ák Bombárdha, there are typically severe winds that gust down from the high points of the island.

Mooring at Adhamas

Once you reach the port of Adhamas, you will need to approach the SW side of the East pier. There you will find moorings. If there is not space, you can go to the town quay which is located between two piers. Take care not to anchor on the East side of the yacht pier as this is reserved for fishing and boat trips.

If none of these locations are available, you can anchor to the East of the town quay. As the bottom is mud and rocks, your anchor will hold.

History and Culture of Adhamas

Adhamas is a port that thrives off the ferry business. With constant arrivals to the Cycladic port town, the harbour is often busy. The waterfront is populated with cafés, bars, and local restaurants.

The island of Milos has long been one run by the mining industry. If you want to learn more about this particular part of the culture, check out the Milos Mining Museum.

Alternatively, scale the large mountain and find the Church of Kimisi tis Theotoku. With fantastic authentic architecture, white stone exterior, and regular services, this is one to check off your list. The church is located on top of the tallest hill in the town, so be sure to slip out of your sandals before making the hike.
