NAIA Review: Angeliki Makri’s Interior, an Axopar 37 and Every Toy From Kites to E-Foil

by Klara Braga Jakobsen, Yacht Reviewer at DMA Yachting

I walked NAIA at the Mediterranean Yacht Show in Nafplio in May 2025, with Marcelle and Carina from our team, and we had breakfast aboard on the last morning of the show. The photos are mine.

NAIA is a 2009 Sanlorenzo that came out of her 2024 refit like a new boat. The owners did not redecorate. They stripped her to the hull and rebuilt the inside, from the cabling above the ceilings to the varnish on the wood.

The interior is the first thing you notice: a burgundy and cream scheme by Athens designer Angeliki Makri with Garibaldi Architects of Milan, done under Sanlorenzo’s own style director.

The second is the toy list. Of the 300-odd motor yachts of her size that charter in Greece, she is one of two that carry kites, a wing foil and an e-foil, and the only one of those with instructors on the crew: two for diving, one for the toys, and a drone operator. The 2024 Axopar 37 chase boat is in the rate.

She sleeps ten in five cabins with eight crew. This review is about what the refit, the balconies and the toys give a group, and who should book another boat.

Our walkthrough of NAIA with her captain, from the myGreekCharter channel. John from our team closes it.

NAIA in numbers

  • Length and beam: 38.5 m (126 ft), beam 7.6 m, aluminium hull, draft under three metres. Sanlorenzo 40 Alloy, 2009, stripped to the hull and rebuilt inside in 2024.
  • Guests: 10 in 5 cabins: a main-deck master with two fold-down balconies, a VIP, a cabin that converts between twin and double, and two twins, each with its own bathroom.
  • Crew: 8, including two dive instructors, a water-toy instructor and a drone operator.
  • Speed: 16 knots cruising, 26 knots maximum, about 550 litres an hour at cruising speed. Stabilisers at anchor and underway.
  • Rate: 142,500 EUR per week, 157,500 EUR in high season, plus 35% APA and Greek charter VAT. With 10 aboard that is about 14,000 to 16,000 EUR per person for the week before expenses. The Axopar 37 chase boat is in the rate.
  • Toys: an Axopar 37 XC chase boat (11.5 m, 2024) and a Williams 445 jet tender, a Sea-Doo Spark Trixx, an e-foil, a wing foil, a Seabob F5S, kites in four sizes with men’s and women’s boards, wakeboard, wakesurf, water skis, two paddleboards, two SeaRaft platforms, scuba kit with a compressor, fishing gear.
  • Cruising: Greece, based in Athens. Aegean and Ionian.

The 2024 refit: stripped to the hull and rebuilt

Her captain explained it on our video. The owners had a choice between a touch-up and a full refit, and they chose the full one. The boat was stripped to the bones and rebuilt: ceilings, the cabling above them, lighting, floors, furniture, artwork, curtains, and every piece of wood varnished again.

The design came from three directions. Angeliki Makri of AM Design Concept in Athens worked with Garibaldi Architects of Milan, and Sanlorenzo’s style director Sergio Buttiglieri oversaw it. The furniture is Flexform, Cassina and Paola Lenti.

The result is what my card from the show says: an immaculate interior with a consistent burgundy theme and attention to detail everywhere you look. She won two World Superyacht Awards as a new build in 2009, and the refit put her back on the 2025 shortlist, which is a mention rather than the story. The story is that nothing in these photos is older than 2024.

Two balconies in the master, one in the saloon

The main-deck master has a fold-down balcony on each side. At anchor both drop, and you have morning coffee a metre above the water with nobody else on that deck. The saloon has a third one, so the main deck opens to the sea on both levels of living space.

The master itself has a walk-in wardrobe, a desk, and the biggest shower I have seen on a 38-metre boat. That shower is the detail everyone remembers from the walk. The bathroom is stone and pale wood, in the same quiet palette as the rest of her.

The other four cabins: a VIP, a convertible, and two twins

Below deck are a VIP double, a cabin that converts between twin and double, and two twins, all with their own bathrooms and all in the same burgundy and cream. The twins are not an afterthought: proper beds, proper storage, and the same finish as the master.

That is a layout for two couples and a family’s worth of teenagers, or for five couples if the convertible is set as a double and the twins are taken by friends who do not mind. Ten is the number. She does not stretch to twelve.

The Axopar, the kites, and a crew who teach

The chase boat is a 2024 Axopar 37 XC Cross Cabin, 11.5 metres, Brabus line, with a fish finder and deep-sea fishing gear. It is in the charter rate, which is unusual; only its fuel is extra. It takes the group to a beach or a taverna while the yacht stays at anchor, and it tows everything.

The toy list is unusual for her size. Among the 110 to 150 foot motor yachts for charter in Greece, three list kites and two list a wing foil; NAIA is on both lists, with an e-foil too, and only one other boat matches that. She carries a Sea-Doo Spark Trixx, an e-foil, a Takuma wing foil, a Seabob F5S, Duotone kites in four sizes with separate men’s and women’s boards, wakeboard and wakesurf, water skis for adults and children, two paddleboards, two SeaRaft platforms that make a floating base off the stern, Mares scuba gear with a Coltri compressor, and fishing kit.

What makes it usable is the crew. Two of the eight are dive instructors, one is a water-toy instructor, and one flies the drone, so a guest who has never foiled or kited gets taught, and the week is filmed. Everything is operated or taught by crew; the drones never leave their hands.

Broker insight

One may have a wonderful yacht, another may not have such a wonderful yacht, but if you do not have a good crew, you cannot make it happen.

The decks: dining under the awning, and breakfast with the brokers

The aft deck has a long table under the awning, set for ten, with the burgundy carried through in the cushions and napkins. The upper deck has a second dining area and a bar. Side-deck balconies and bow seating add two more places to sit away from the group.

We had breakfast there on the last morning of the show, the three of us from DMA with a colleague from another brokerage, which is the best way to judge a deck: it was shaded, level and quiet at nine in the morning in a packed marina.

Who she is for, and who should not book her

  • Active couples who want the toys and someone to teach them.
  • Families with teenagers: the twins for the kids, the instructors for the kiting and foiling.
  • Kite and foil people, who will not find four kite sizes and a wing foil on many charter yachts.
  • A group of ten who want a yacht that feels new without paying a new-yacht rate.

She is not for everyone. Two of the five cabins are fixed twins, so a group of five couples needs to be happy with that. There is no jacuzzi on deck; the water is the pool. And she is a 2009 hull, however new she feels inside, so a client who wants a 2024 build should look at BESTIA. She cruises at 16 knots, which covers the Cyclades comfortably but is not fast.

Booking NAIA for Greece: rate, VAT, base and what to ask

The published rate for 2027 is 142,500 EUR per week, 157,500 EUR in high season, plus a 35% APA and Greek charter VAT at the rate that applies to your itinerary. The Axopar chase boat is included; its fuel comes out of the APA. For the money you get a 2024 interior, a 2024 toy list, and eight crew for ten guests.

She is based in Athens and works the Aegean and the Ionian. Her aluminium hull and shallow draft let her tuck into coves the steel boats pass. Ask for the convertible cabin to be set the way your group needs, ask which instructors are aboard for your dates, and ask for the master balconies to be down on the first afternoon.

We have walked her and we put her on our Top 10 motor yachts in Greece at 100 to 150K a week and our Sanlorenzo charter guide for Greece.

NAIA and three more yachts in her class

NAIA and three other yachts in Greece at this rate I would look at next if her dates are gone: FATSA, her Sanlorenzo sister with a bigger master; BESTIA, the 2024 build that goes twice as fast; and PATHOS, with two master cabins for two couples.
