What Yacht Cabins are Right For Your Group?

Quick Read: 3 minutes

An important detail when choosing the right yacht for your Greek charter is what cabin layout you need for your group. These are the cabins you find on yachts in Greece:

  • Master cabin (primary cabin
  • VIP Cabins / VIP Suites
  • Double Cabins
  • Twin Cabins
  • Convertible Twin Cabins
  • Bunk Cabins
  • Pullman Beds

For couples, master cabins offer the most luxury, followed by slightly smaller VIP cabins and doubles. Twins, which can sometimes convert to doubles, work well for friends or kids, while bunk beds are great for families. If you’re multiple couples splitting the cost, look for yachts with equally sized VIP or double cabins. Many catamarans and motor yachts are designed with this in mind, making cost-sharing easy and fair.

Master Cabins

The Master cabin is traditionally where the master stays – it is the largest and most luxurious cabin on the yacht.

In the master cabin on motor yachts, you will often have his and her ensuite bathroom, walk-in closets, and sometimes a private studio/office attached.

Besides being the best and biggest cabin onboard a yacht, it is also located in the best spot on the yacht, i.e., on larger motor yachts, on the top deck with direct access to the sundeck, or a private balcony.

  • Ideal for: The primary charterer, parents, couples, anyone celebrating, or those who cover the majority of the charter costs.

VIP Suites

VIP suites are slightly smaller, let’s say about 60-70% of the master cabin, but still offer a high level of comfort and space. They often include a king bed and a bigger private ensuite bathroom than a double. On larger yachts, you will often find multiple VIP cabins for a group of equal couples.

  • Ideal for: Secondary guests, couples who still want a high-end experience, and parents or grandparents on multigenerational charters.

Double Cabins

Double cabins typically have a queen-sized bed and are designed for couples. They offer comfort without the extra frills of the master or VIP cabins.

  • Ideal for: Couples or singles who want more space. *Many charter yachts are designed with multiple double cabins of equal size – this makes it easier for groups to share without having to draw straws.

Twin Cabins

Twin cabins come with two single beds, making them suitable for guests who prefer separate sleeping arrangements.

  • Ideal for: Friends, siblings, or children. Offers flexibility for guests who don’t want to share a bed.

Convertible Cabins

Convertible cabins can switch between twin beds and a double bed, providing flexibility in sleeping arrangements.

  • Ideal for: Groups that need versatile cabin options. Perfect for mixed groups or those who want options.

Bunk Beds – ideal for families with kids

Bunk bed cabins are usually more compact, making them ideal for kids or additional guests. You can find bunk cabins with 2 to 4 beds.

  • Ideal for: Families with children or budget-conscious groups. We usually do not recommend bunk beds for adults, as space can feel rather cramped.

Pullman Beds – for extra kids or nannies

A Pullman bed on a yacht is a type of foldable or retractable bed, usually mounted on a wall or hidden in a compartment that can be pulled down or set up when needed. It’s typically found in guest cabins, especially in smaller or more versatile spaces, allowing for extra sleeping arrangements without taking up permanent space. When not in use, the bed can be stowed away, giving the cabin more room during the day.

*The top bunk of bunk beds is often a Pullman, so the cabin can be for either a single person or two, if needed.

  • Ideal for: Pullman beds are a practical solution for accommodating additional children (we do not usually recommend them for adults). Sometimes located in twin, double, or master cabins, they can be useful for kids who want to sleep with their parents.

Yachts with Equally Sized Cabins – perfect for couples splitting the bill

Some yachts feature cabins that are nearly identical in size and amenities. These are ideal for groups of couples or friends who want to share costs equally. I.e., a common request is for catamarans with 5 equal double cabins for larger friend groups, splitting the bill.

  • Ideal for: Groups of friends or couples looking to split costs fairly. Ensures no one feels shortchanged in terms of space or comfort.
