Ormos Korthi

Location 

Ormos Korthi is one of a couple of bays found on the southern side of Andros where it is possible to anchor under certain weather conditions. This charming bay is located next to one of the most well-known beaches on the island, Tis Grias to Pidima, with the characteristic narrow rock and turquoise waters. The area is great for windsurfing due to the strong eastern winds but is also great for swimming. This can be a great spot for yacht charters to visit for the day and explore nearby beaches that are impossible to reach otherwise. It lies approximately 6 miles south of the Chora of Andros that is also known as Kastro. Locals also refer to this area as Gialos. 

Navigation 

Approaching Ormos Korthi can be a challenge when there are strong Meltemi winds. When there is adequate space you can go stern or bow-to behind the mole. If the weather obliges, it can be possible to anchor off but can become uncomfortable and dangerous. Depth reaches more than 8m in places with sand and seaweed bottom. Holding can be quite bad due to strong winds. 

Provisioning 

The anchorage point of Ormos Korthi has water but limited other provisions available. During the high season, the village is active with tourists visiting the nearby beaches. There are plenty of tavernas and restaurants along the coast for enjoying a meal with a view and small shops for all necessary amenities.

Capacity and Technical Data 

This is a relatively quiet bay despite its adequate size. Facilities and infrastructure developments are underway and the mole has been recently extended to offer more options. The winds make this a challenging spot for overnight and extended yacht charter stays. At the same time, the natural beauty of the landscape creates a secluded and quiet spot that offers intimate moments of relaxation. In the bay, you will probably find a small deck and fishing boats that belong to locals. The small chapel of Hagia Sophia on the northern side of the bay is a perfect location to watch the sunset after swimming at nearby Tis Grias to Pidima beach.
