When planning a luxury yacht charter, it’s important to manage your expectations and understand the realities of travel distances in the Mediterranean. Yacht Charter Broker Marcelle Hailwax shares her tips to help you make the best decisions.
Here is what you should know:
- Travel Time & Activities
The distances in the Mediterranean are quite big. For instance, it is over 1000 nautical miles sailing from Split in Croatia to Portofino in Italy. This distance can’t realistically be done within 1 week if you also want time to enjoy local activities on land, like roaming the historical streets of Split or sampling the best pizza in Venice. A yacht charter involves more than just sailing. Consider the time you might want to spend sunbathing, snorkeling, or exploring coastal towns.
- Planning and Expectations
While social media might suggest that such trips can be done in a few days, this is not accurate. Planning a comprehensive itinerary across multiple charter areas typically requires more than a week. Work with knowledgeable brokers who understand the specific locations, itineraries, and the best yachts for a more realistic and fulfilling charter experience.
- Setting Realistic Goals
If you have limited time, focus on enjoying fewer destinations rather than rushing to cover more ground. This approach allows for a richer, more relaxed yacht charter experience.
