Kythnos is a charter location in Cyclades, a yacht charter area in Greece.
The anchorages on Kythnos:
Overview
Ormos Akporiosis or the Apokrousi Beach is one of the most well-known beaches of Kithnos. It is a beautiful sandy beach located in the northwest of Kithnos. This unique bay has small hills surrounding it, which give it a very conspicuous appearance. Unlike a lot of the beaches in the Cyclades region, the Apokrousi beach is very sandy. The water is so clear, you can see to the bottom of the bay.
Navigation
Getting to the Apokrousi beach is easy. One can choose to take one of the buses from Merihas port or hire a taxi or a Motorcycle. The journey to the beach is a pretty smooth ride. Apokrousi beach is 3 kilometres away from Chora village, north of Port Merikhas and after Episkopi.
This bay is a favourite of small boats because of the hills which enclose it and protect it from the strong winds.
Where to Anchor
The sea bed is sandy and filled with seaweed, but the anchor can drive down up to 5-10m. Sailors must maintain utmost care to ensure the boat anchors successfully. It is wise to take the long line to the Northern side for added security. Boats also have to be careful of the rocks on the eastern part of the coast to prevent any incidents.
General Information
This small settlement is built on the hills and behind the beach are gardens and fruit trees that feed the small population of Akporiosis.
North of the bay is a small chapel, St. Lukes Chapel, that lies on a low hill and connects to the famous beach of Kolona or column beach.
Though this beach is unorganized, it is a Blue Flag beach hailed for its pristine waters.
