The anchorages on Kimolos:
Location
Pirgonisi anchorage has a wide sandy beach across the length of the southern part of Kimolos. It gets its name from a small rocky islet just off the beach that acts as a beautiful marina for sight seekers. The evening skies are beautiful here and you can rest in one of the villas that are built onshore.
Because of its excellent cover from the meltemi, Pirgonisi is arguably the most preferred anchorage for most tourists.
Mooring at Pirgonisi
At Pirgonisi, you can anchor anywhere off the coast as long as you stay away from the rocky shallow waters. The islet of Pirgonisi is a recommended anchoring area that provides good holding. The water bed is chiefly sand and weed and will act as a great tug for your yacht.
There has been an unconfirmed report of an underwater rock somewhere in the middle of the bay parallel to the shoreline but it has not been officially confirmed. However, it is recommended to take extra caution steering through the shore to avoid rock slabs.
Provisioning and Services
Pirgonisi is a scenic rest stop offering a line of small villas and snack stalls built around the shoreline. You can look at renting one for a night out or two to take in the view that the beach provides. If you are lucky, you can also check out the full moon of August from the beaches.
