The anchorages on Serifos:
Ormos Koutala
The bay is open to the S side of Sérifos and well protected from meltemi. Thanks to its iron mine employing workers from all over Greece and Italy, it experienced a great economic boom until the end of the century. There are villas built around the shores and the tavern in the NW bay.
Navigation
On the S side, an open bay provides shelter from Meltemi. Choose one of the two coves to anchor. NE cove has a sandy bottom, good for holding. There are two large mooring chains in the NW cove that can be difficult to notice despite the pillar. It’s best to anchor in 6-10m on a sandy bottom. Look out for local magnetic anomalies caused by remains of iron ore mines and jetties on both sides of the bay.
Beaches
Paralia Koutalas
Although the bay is quiet and calm, you can still enjoy sunbathing. Paralia Koutalas is a nice pebble beach surrounded by mountains and partially covered by trees that give natural shade.
Ganema beach
Ganema is a large beautiful beach on the south coast of Serifos, 7 km from Livadi, perfect for a relaxing day. You can get to it by car, and then on foot, or sailing. One half of the beach is covered with light sand, another, with large white stones. Tamarisks grow along the beach bringing pleasant shadows when it gets too hot.
