Ormos Moutsouna is an anchorage in Naxos.

Naxos is a charter location in Cyclades, a yacht charter area in Greece.

The anchorages on Naxos:

Overview

The unspoiled and traditional fishing village of Moutsouna is located on the east coast of the island.  The village sits just below the southwest tip of the distinctive Moutsouna Cape. In the summer, you will find many fishing boats moored in the small harbour, enhancing the picturesque look and feel of this delightful place. Originally the port was used to load marble for transportation to the mainland or other islands, but now it hosts local fishermen and visiting recreational craft.

Navigation

Ormos Moutsouna is located just under Ak Moutsouna.  There is a reef and some rocks when you approach on the northern side, so it is best to anchor to the south. The bottom is sand and shingle, which provides poor holding, and, during the Meltemi, the bay doesn’t provide great shelter either.  When the northerlies are particularly strong, it is best to move to Hohlakas beach just along the coast. Moutsouna is also open to NE-SW winds.

Beaches

Next to the port of Moutsouna, there is a small sandy beach where you enjoy the warmth of the sun while being close to the (limited) facilities of the village. The nearby taverna has a great reputation for serving delicious local specialities and freshly caught fish, all cooked daily.

There are only two small unorganized beaches in Moutsouna. The one located on the front of the seaside tavern is known as Ai Giannis and the second one is called Tigani.

The coast around Moutsouna is blessed with wonderful secluded beaches such as Psili Ammos, Klidos, and Ligarida. The beaches are 8-12 kilometers away from Moutsana Village. Perfect for swimming and snorkelling, these beaches frequently experience strong windy conditions, which makes them a perfect base for a spot of windsurfing.

Hohlakas Beach

Even though it is not the longest beach on Naxos, Hohlakas has sparkling golden sand and is sheltered by the surrounding hills which are a relatively easy climb when you are ready for some light exercise.  It is an ideal base for swimming, snorkelling, or setting up a picnic feast.

Places of Interest

Apeiranthos Village

Combine your Moutsouna tour with a little visit to Apeiranthos Village. It is known as the ‘crown jewel’ of Naxos. The locals claim that once you are in their village, you will not feel like you are on an island. While you are in the village, you can visit the Folklore Museum, Museum of Natural History, Archaeological Museum, and Geological Museum.

There are many cafes in the village square. Built on the slopes of Mount Fanari, this village is a must-visit.

Places to Eat

Dichty Taverna

Moutsouna is a really small village and there are a few beaches around here. When there is a sea, there are delectable seafood dishes too. The Dichty Taverna is located on the beach and the staff ensures that nobody leaves the restaurant without a smile on their face. Affordable rates, friendly staff, great view, and amazing spread of seafood – Dichty Taverna is one of the best places to have a wholesome meal.
