Ormos Skala

Location 

Ormos Skala is the main and only port of Sikinos, an island in the southern Cyclades of the Aegean Sea. It is most commonly referred to as Alopronia and is the welcome point for visitors to the island by ferry. This is the only way to reach the island since there is no airport unless you are chartering a yacht. 

Navigation 

Rocks and shoal waters on the W side. Shallow waters in approaches can be tricky. Options for mooring are limited but recently, the mole has been extended and there is now room for 4-5 boats. The seabed is mostly sand. When it’s windy the roll can be a bit uncomfortable. Longer boats will find it hard to manoeuvre. Can also anchor off in 3-5 if space is tight. 

Provisioning 

The settlement of Alopronia is the best option for shopping and offers visitor amenities such as grocery stores, an ATM and some restaurants. Since this is where most accommodation options are located it might also be the most crowded part of the island. The beach area has tamarisk trees for some natural shade and golden sand with beautiful clear waters. Some umbrellas for hire and sunbeds are available to visitors.  

Capacity and Technical Data 

Alopronia is the hub of the island and can be busy till late at night. However, the laid back and serene vibe means there are seldom any rowdy partygoers.  At the same time, there are plenty of bars to enjoy a local glass of rakomelo and some food. Keep in mind that the island has no pharmacy. Since beaches are located on the southern side of the island and require a hike or boat access, Ormos Skala is the easiest option for most visitors hence it can be crowded.
