Anchorage in Tinos

Ormos Kolimbithra

Location

Ormos Kolimbithra often misspelt to Kolombithra, has taken its name from the most famous beach of Tinos. Located on the E coast of the island in between Livada Beach and Ormos Panormou, this is a well-protected bay that is made up of two magnificent beaches, Mikri and Megali Ammos (translated to Small and Large Sand). Big Kolibirthra is a vibrant and crowded hotspot with a bohemian, laid back vibe. It is popular with surfers and water sport enthusiasts due to the waves. Small Kolimbithra is better for families with children, has crystal clear waters, a sandy bottom and offers more wind protection. The bay is a perfect spot for Greek yacht charters that want to experience this magnificent beach.

Navigation

This bay of Kolimbithra offers relatively good protection from southerlies and westerlies. Crewed yachts should be careful when the Meltemi blows as it offers little protection from north winds and can be dangerous. Point starboard after passing the islet of Dragonissi off the W entrance. Anchor at the head of the bay in 3-5m. Sandy bottom offers relatively good holding.

Provisioning

This is a popular spot for tourists for sunbathing and swimming. A few tavernas are available in the general area and mini-market shops. Big Kolimbithra beach is fully organized and visitors will find all standard amenities including sunbeds and umbrellas. Local buses depart from Kolimbithra beach to Chora, located only 9 km to the south.

Capacity and Technical Data

A large bay with various options for anchoring, Ormos Kolimbithra is popular with bathers but during the Meltemi season can be tricky to access. On calm days, it makes an excellent spot for snorkelling and underwater explorations.
