The anchorages on Syros:
Overview
On the Aegean Sea lies Limin Sirou. It is also called the Port of Sirou or Sirou Marina. This port lodged just south of Ermoupolis Port is connected to the Cyclades. Compared to the hustle and bustle of ships, boats, and shipping vessels at the Port of Ermoupolis, this quiet port is a breath of fresh, calm air. There are no swells from big ships, unlike at the port of Ermoupolis.
Navigation
Limin Sirou is a quiet harbour in the South Aegean Islands that has an elevation of 1 meter. Located on Latitude 37 ° 26’0″ North and Longitude 24 ° 56’0″ East, this small harbour has an anchorage depth of approximately 20 – 21m.
A bus leaves to the city centre from the Port of Sirou. One can use electricity and water at the Port of Ermoupoli, which is about 1 Nautical Mile away from Limin Sirou. If you want to, there are plenty of options in town to rent a car. And you can tour the stops of Piraeus, Crete, and Samos with ferries from Ermoúpolis.
This port is four nautical miles from Finikas Marina and 18 nautical miles from Mykonos.
General Information
Some major repair work is going on in the Sirou Port to make it better for travellers. The dry dock is of medium size, while the harbour is small. The harbour type is coastal breakwater which means it lies behind an artificial breakwater construction built to add to the existing natural cover. Limin Sirou is a reliable place to dock while going into town for food and supplies. The privatization of this harbour was halted halfway, which made the work on the Sirou port suffer. The port is not well lit at night. It doesn’t have a toilet and bath, electricity, and water. The shelter it provides is not the best as it is open to dominant winds, waves, and sea currents. It has enough space for one or two yachts.
