Ormos Aetou

Aetos is a sheltered bay in northwestern Syros located north of the Varvaroussa beach and south of Ano Meria and Ak Sarakinito. It is approximately 1km from Varvaroussa and over 5.5km from Ano Syros for those hiking. It can be reached by sea on one of the boats that sail from Kini or Athens. 

The sheltered nature of the bay protects one from the wind, which generally gives a great swimming experience. Just to the right of the main beach is a small secluded beach where the unique formation of the rocks gives shade in case the sun gets too hot.

History of Ormos Aetos

Aetos means eagle, though we might never know why this beach was named such. We recognize the link the Aegean Sea has to the course of the civilization of the country. Every beach has a story to tell, whether it has been discovered or not. Every pebble on the Aetos beach carries an indelible part of history in it. Every rugged peak, every hundred-year-old tamarisk tree bears marks of history. As the sweat of sailors, pirates, and recent visitors wash ashore, history is never lost.
