Patmos Yacht Charter Guide

Patmos is one of the best Dodecanese islands for clients who want a more polished cultural stop between quieter cruising days. We usually like Patmos on routes from Kos, Leros, Lipsi, or Kalymnos because it adds history, restaurants, and a proper evening ashore without turning the itinerary into only beach stops.

The island is best known for Chora, the Monastery of Saint John, and the Cave of the Apocalypse, but for yacht charters its real value is the mix: calm harbor life, strong shore excursions, and easy pairing with smaller nearby islands.

Best For

  • Dodecanese routes that need one polished historic island
  • Guests who want restaurants, Chora evenings, and culture ashore
  • Charters combining Patmos with Leros, Lipsi, Kalymnos, Kos, or Levitha
  • Groups who want a softer alternative to busier headline islands
  • Itineraries where the yacht can use Patmos as a comfortable route anchor

Highlights

  • Chora: Our favorite part of Patmos for most clients: whitewashed lanes, views, restaurants, and a more refined evening ashore.
  • Monastery of Saint John: The island’s main landmark and one of the clearest reasons to build in time off the yacht.
  • Cave of the Apocalypse: A key religious and historical site, usually paired with Chora on a shore excursion.
  • Skala: The main port area, useful for yacht logistics, going ashore, and meeting transport around the island.
  • Grikos Bay: A quieter area that can work well for a more relaxed Patmos feel, depending on the yacht and conditions.

Patmos Anchorage

Patmos is usually planned around Skala and the island’s more sheltered bays rather than one fixed anchorage promise. We recommend keeping the overnight plan flexible, because the right choice depends on the yacht, weather, and whether the priority is Chora, restaurants, or a quieter swim stop.
