Onboard visit
We've booked PROJECT STEEL before and would happily do it again. Captain Evangelos brings deep local knowledge — the best hidden coves, the freshest fish straight from the fishermen — and Chef Konstantinos previously cooked for the King of Kuwait. Expect a clean, minimalist black-and-white interior, genuinely great value, strong fuel efficiency, and a crew-first, zero-waste ethos (strict recycling, nose-to-tail cooking) from a captain who once sailed with Greenpeace's Rainbow Warrior.

Transcript — Captain Evangelos on PROJECT STEEL's Greek Charters
>> [music]
Captain Evangelos: It has been an amazing summer last year, and we hope to a much better season this year. It was amazing. We had some very nice guests on board. We had some very good feedback [music] from them, and we still have some repeaters this year.
Our itineraries, we [music] did loads of Greece. So going to the Cyclades: Mykonos, Sifnos, Kimolos, Milos. And then we did Saronic Gulf and Ionian [music] Sea. So these three itineraries: Saronic Gulf, Cyclades, and Ionians are the favorites of the guests that they're coming on board our vessel.
>> [music]
Captain Evangelos: You need to come four or five times because we still have the Sporades and the Dodecanese. So [music] we have a long range boat. It can travel quite a lot. [music] It has an independence of fuel, so it can travel many miles. And people that they're joining us, because we're a full displacement boat and we're not stopped by weather, we can travel pretty much everywhere in Greece and in the Aegean Sea.
>> [music]
Captain Evangelos: We had families and we had some companies that they came on board to party. We do prefer families. We are a children friendly boat [music] and family friendly boat. So it's very important for us for people to be satisfied no matter [music] who will come on board. We will take care of them, but we love having families and children. We do interact with them and they do enjoy their time on board as we have loads of toys, loads of drawing books, water markers, and we do spend time [singing] with the kids [music] and parents. We speak about history, we speak about mythology, and when they leave from the boat, they have a unique experience, [music] and they go back and they say stories about what they have learned on the boat and here in Greece.
>> [music]
Captain Evangelos: Yes, I have some charters that I will never forget. Actually, we had a family last year that [music] they came on board, they had never traveled in the past. We went to the Cyclades for three days, so we spent one day in Kythnos, [music] one day in Serifos, one day in Milos. They saw those islands, and then we crossed to the Saronic Gulf. By the time they left, they could actually tell me stories that I have told them, so they wanted to correct the stories that I was telling them. And when they left the boat, they were in tears, happy tears, that they were leaving promising that they would come back. A fantastic family, two families with four children that they enjoyed their times, and I will never forget them, actually. So, every [music] single trip, it's different. I cannot actually distinguish something, but yeah, I will not say their [music] names, but that trip in the middle of July, I will never forget it.
>> [music]
Captain Evangelos: They need a broker [music] because they will provide the right yacht for them at the right price. I mean, they will ask for what sort of vacation they want to do. They will find the right crew, [music] the right boat for the budget that they have, and they will be able to provide. If they [music] will search by themselves, they might have loads of surprises. Brokers are coming down to the boat [music] so they will be able to see the yachts, and they will pass the knowledge to the customers [music] that they are about to come and have a cruise, a tour with us.
Broker John Boullain: The fantastic thing about a yacht charter is that you take your hotel with you every day. [music] You don't have to unpack and repack, catch ferries, be in car transport. The yacht is the floating hotel that is [music] taking you from A to B to C to D to explore the wonderful parts of Greece. My name is John. Please do contact DMA if you wish to book.
Transcript — Captain's Interview: Why Guests Cry Leaving Project Steel
>> Captain: When you come on the boat, it's only sometimes, only seven days, but as you start from the first day, people are thinking that, you know, it's seven days, not enough. When they leave, it feels like they have spent a lifetime because there are so many experiences and so many things that they have seen. It's, I mean, they leave and they tell us that, you know, oh, we felt like we have been for a month on board, and they have spent seven days. When people are leaving, and they have lived memories that they will carry on for the rest of their lives. I mean, memories to cherish. They do start crying and they do hug us. They meet, it's something unique.
Greece, it's a must-see with a boat. The boat is one of Bugari, built only this boat. It was built in 1993 as a 25-meter boat. In 2019, it was elongated. It was rebuilt. It was 30, it turned into 34 meters. Refit again on 2019. It's a displacement boat. So, it's a slow boat and people can enjoy the sceneries and the trip. We're trying to be family style, not very formal.
We can host 12 guests, five cabins, that the two of them are twins and they have Pullman beds. So we can host three guests in there, especially when we have kids. They love the Pullman beds and a master playroom, as we call it, which on top, it's a VIP and another VIP.
130 liters per hour and 200 liters for the generators in 24 hours. Finishing a charter, we're using, if we will calculate it, something like 3,000-4,000 liters max, which for a boat of this size, it's pretty low. What we try to do, especially with our boat, is to go to the secret Greece, as we call it, places that people don't know. They're not on the Instagram. It's my wish actually to show these places to the people, so when they come on board, they have a full experience of Greek food, very nice sceneries, the philoxenia, as we call it here in Greece, which is actually the love towards the people that are hosts.
You need the brokers because the brokers know all the fleet. They know actually most of the boats in the fleet in Greece, in Caribbean, and in France. So they will be able to advise you about what is the right boat, what is the right crew. It's not all the boats for all the people. I had very good experience working with DMA in the past and hopefully we'll manage to have loads of charters with DMA in the future as well.
If you are interested in any of these yachts for your vacation, give us a call. [Music]
Transcript — A full walkthrough of PROJECT STEEL with Captain John
>>: We are on PROJECT STEEL, and we're meeting Captain John. Show us around.
[Music]
>>: How's it going?
>>: Thank you.
[Music]
Captain John: Sitting area.
Captain John: The dining table, in case of big weather, comfortably seats a group, comfortably eight, and do ten, have done twelve, but very tight.
Captain John: The yacht was rebuilt in 2019, and the interior was redone in 2020. Very successful research. Almost everything on the yacht, mechanically and cosmetically, is new. Also, the hull design is new: new bow, new stern, new garage, new.
>>: That sounds great. Definitely has a new feel to it. Thank you. This is one double cabin on the main deck.
Captain John: PROJECT STEEL is a displacement yacht. Speed is 11.5, consumption as low as 110-120 liters per hour. 110 liters.
>>: You make it sound casual, I'm going to be a bit excited about it because I will just explain, like, you can easily, it could easily be 300, 500, even 700 liters.
Captain John: Now, now, price per liter right now is 1.9, so you can, we can make the calculations yourself. If you're doing a four-hour navigation, or maybe even 50 nautical miles, that would be like four hours, it is, it is something to be very excited about, yes. Because sometimes, you know, you focus on the base price, and, uh, you know, things like this that significantly affect your APA, especially if you are looking to do an itinerary that, uh, you know, like in the Cyclades, where the differences are significant, uh, yeah, you're looking at, uh, possibly even tens of thousands of dollars in the difference.
Captain John: Our clients on PROJECT STEEL usually get a good amount of the APA returned at the end of the charter.
>>: That's good to hear, and I also want to mention that's not usually the case. It's quite often the APA might not even be enough, depends on very many things, but consumption is, uh, like the primary, the primary APA eater, isn't it?
Captain John: It's my ninth year, I have never seen it here.
>>: Oh, like that's, that's a very good record.
Captain John: Going aft, two twin cabins, identical, both with Pullman beds. Just going to pull one out so you can see its size.
>>: I see what you mean, like the, oh, it's coming down for security reasons, slower.
Captain John: And, and it's, uh, a pretty good size, like, I mean, it's a full bed. Maximum weight is about 160, which is good for the Pullman, really. They will eliminate it in 100 pounds.
Captain John: We do use them quite a lot.
>>: Especially, I imagine they're popular, yeah.
Captain John: The, the kids love it, like a little castle. Get out there, it's sleeping here with down bed empty.
>>: Yes, yes, I can relate to that.
Captain John: I'll hate bathroom street.
Captain John: She, there is a quite new feeling to her, definitely. So again, a common bed. Leave this one and thank you.
Captain John: So going aft, we will continue to the master cabin. Our separate staircase.
[Music]
Captain John: So a full-beam master, private entrance.
Captain John: The bathroom is decent size, and there's a big day.
Captain John: Welcome, close it. Put the safety box in all the batteries. Thank you.
Captain John: We'll continue up to the bridge and to the flybridge. Your right, and up the stairs to your left.
[Music]
Captain John: New electronics and bridge, a wheelhouse navigation.
[Music]
>>: I imagine this is your favorite spot.
Captain John: Yes. Libraries, the tables can go down and connect, and we have a big cushion, so this all, we have, uh, sun cover from the roll bar up to the two posts there, so I cover the whole area for shade. So there's the sun cover, I see the two posts.
Captain John: And there's a barbecue here. It has to make this tender because we wanted a bigger one, so it folds out and becomes nine feet, 19 feet tender, which is very useful.
[Music]
Captain John: We can also tow it when the weather is good, leaving the aft space open. We have some sunbeds which can be used to sun lounge.
>>: I hear you exercise or anything else. It sounds like water sports are quite the thing, and, uh, tubes, donuts.
>>: I see, are the jet skis at the back in the garage?
Captain John: In the garage.
>>: So, uh, all right, so I'm wondering if this is where we want to end the tour, or is there more to see?
Captain John: Now we have more.
>>: Oh, we have more. All right, I'm following.
[Music]
Captain John: I think the most used area is this one because you can do everything. Yeah, good size, big groups can be together eating, drinking, sun lounging, having a drink. Huge space. Good.

Thank you for the experience of a lifetime!
Thank you for the best week and best vacation. We were constantly amazed at the wonderful meals, swimming spots and recommendations for activities and restaurants. The boat was great but the crew is what made this a dream vacation.
Some of our favorites included the pirate party + bar in Hydra, Greek coffee in Kyparissi, ATVing around Aegina and tubing/wake boarding. But honestly, it is hard to pick favorites - every day was beautiful.
