The anchorages on Skhinousa:
Overview
Ormos Mirsini is the most popular and preferred anchorage of the lot, providing travellers excellent respite from the Meltemi. Although it is slightly difficult to “sail into” the anchorage due to its tricky location, it’s perfectly sailable during the daytime. It is located to the west of Skhinousa
Check out the navigation details to find Mirsini for an overnight stay or two at the chora. You will find friendly company of merchant men and women here, and a lot of fellow tourists if you visit in summer.
Mooring at Mirsini
You can sail from the nearby islands Naxos and Amorgos, and anchor at the south end of the Mirsini bay with an anchor suggestion of not more than eight meters. The deep seabed is made up of sand, weed, and occasional reefs but the holding is not great. Dropping the anchor full in is recommended.
The west and southwest areas of the bay that makes up the ferry quay are prohibited. You can steer your yacht adjacent to this quay and go bows-to if needed. Use judgment and ask around before you anchor to avoid the water tankers and motorboats that are known to take up space here.
Several other areas around Mirsini are also prohibited from anchoring. Getting a map is recommended for assistance during entry and anchoring.
Provisioning and Services
The Chora on the Mirsini hill will provide some provisions. You can also refill water and other refreshments from the few tavernas and cafes lined on the shore. Electricity may also be available at the huts (berths) which can be rented out for resting.
