South Bay is an anchorage in Rinia.
Rinia is a charter location in Cyclades, a yacht charter area in Greece.
The anchorages on Rinia:
Location
South Bay is located to the southern edge of Rinia and is the most isolated anchorage of the island. It offers excellent shelter from the northerlies but is bare open against the southerlies. In the Meltemi season – between June and October – South Bay can be a great choice for a brief stop.
In the summers, you may find fellow tourists looking for some quiet time but it is very rarely crowded. It has several places for you to anchor.
Mooring at South Bay
South Bay anchorage offers a cosy place for some sightseeing and resting. You can moor near the head of the bay with the suggested anchor of not more than five meters. The shallow waters have a sandy bed but offer good holding.
You may also park your boat here and take a dinghy to Delos, which is hardly a kilometer from the coast. Caution is recommended as there are reefs scattered across the channel with the meltemi winds reaching speeds of force 7 and upwards.
Provisioning and Services
South bay is not recommended as a provisioning stop. There are no facilities in and around the marina.
You will find a well on the western end of the beach that may provide emergency (near) potable water. However, beware of sea urchins on its edges.
